Health Ministry What better time to begin National Women’s Health Week than on the day we celebrate Mother’s Day. National Women’s Health Week this year is May 11-17 and is a time to empower women across the country to get healthy by taking action. This is the week when women are especially encouraged to make their health a top priority and take simple steps to help ensure a longer healthier and happier life. It is a week to educate women about steps to improve their physical and mental health to prevent disease. This education includes engaging in physical activity most days of the week eating a more nutritious diet visiting a healthcare provider to receive regular check ups and prevention screenings and avoiding risky behaviors like smoking and not wearing your seatbelt. Since women are so often the caregivers for spouses children and parents they often forget to focus on their own health needs. Let’s each encourage a woman we know to focus on her health for the next week. Happy Mother’s Day to all our Mothers.

“Peace be with you!” John 20:19 On
that first Easter Sunday the frightened disciples
who had abandoned Jesus were behind locked doors.
Jesus appeared and said, “Peace be with you!” When
Karol Wojtyla stepped onto a balcony as Pope John
Paul II he told the crowd, “Do not be afraid.” In
Cajun country people say, “Mais cher, laissez les
bon temps rouller!” (My dear, let the good time
roll!) On Pentecost Sunday fifty days after being in
a room behind locked doors the Apostles accepted
their responsibility to be good stewards of the
message and mission of Jesus Christ. They were at
peace with their faith in Jesus as the Risen Lord.
They came out from behind the locked doors and
courageously proclaimed the Good news. They have
passed on that responsibility to each of us in our
own time. Are we at peace with our faith in Jesus as
the Risen Lord? Are we doing our part to carry on
the mission and speak the message of Jesus? The,
Peace be with you! Do not be afraid! Mais cher,
laissez les bon temps rouller!
The Knights of Columbus would like to thank
all those who attended the First Friday Fish Fry
last week. All proceeds will benefit the Tennessee
Wheelchair Foundation. If you were not able to join
us this month make plans now to attend Friday June 6
after the 5:30 p.m. Mass. We look forward to seeing
you there.
Volunteers are needed by Interfaith Senior
Services to take an elderly person to and from
doctor’s appointments. Volunteers are matched with
an elderly person in the same part of town. Call
Emily Seymour at Catholic Charities 265-2397 for
more information or to volunteer.
Look around you. How many men and women in
your own parish are caring and compassionate
individuals who are good listener’s articulate
speakers and loving enthusiastic Catholics? How many
of these special gifted people have ever been
invited to consider becoming a priest sister brother
permanent deacon or full time lay minister?
Statistics show that 80% of the 18-30 year olds in
the U.S. and Canada have never been asked to
consider a Church Vocation. The Church needs these
people at the parish level the unique gifts of each
individual are lived day by day. This is where
vocation of public ministry in the Church should be
recognized and nurtured. Without your initiative to
promote Church vocations you can assume that most
young adults in your parish will never even be asked
to consider this high level of commitment to their
faith and community. And don’t overlook mature
adults. Serra Parents, God’s will is that your child be happy fulfilled and live a life that will make the most of his or her talents. Isn’t that what you want, too? Talk to your child about Church vocations.
